What is Imidacloprid?
It is an insecticide used against pests that affect citrus, sugar cane and cotton crops. Imidacloprid is a good and effective insecticide, which helps to control and even eliminate practically all insects that are damaging the crops, such as aphids, mealybugs, thrips or white flies for example. This product is mainly used during the most humid period, being its highest demand at the beginning of the year.
It is important for rural producers to plan and monitor market trends and movements to ensure the lowest price for the insecticide and delivery of the product.
In the first half of 2020, the volume imported was 46% lower than in the same period in 2019, which may have been caused by the market uncertainties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, since global demand for pesticides is low.
This low demand also affected the international price of insecticide, which fell by 18% in the Chinese market since early 2020. In Brazil, the average price of insecticide in concentration, 700g/kg, was 14% lower in the first half of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019, from R$ 128.5/kg to R$ 110.6/kg (US$ 24/kg to US$ 20/kg).
